4 Eye Diseases that Sunglasses Protect You From

Sunglasses for sale in the Philippines have a reputation of being worn mostly as an accessory. Whatever our reason for buying shades, it’s almost always to accessorize, in preparation for a trip to the beach, and some other aesthetic purpose. Contrary to popular Filipino significance, sunglasses play a bigger role than making us look good. Sunglasses ae meant to protect the eyes, improve vision in very bright surrounding, and counter the effects of harmful UV rays. These reasons are why in turn, sunglasses prevent some of the following eye illnesses or injuries.

Eye Strain

Eye strain is a common eye affliction that affects people just by over using their eyes. Using the eyes over a long period of time will strain them even if you are indoors like, say, in front of the computer for a long time. Direct exposure to bright sun outdoors will tire the eye out much faster and strain it at the same rate as well. Wearing sunglasses help mitigate this injury by letting your eyes adjust to outdoor brightness.

Flash Blindness

Flash blindness is a temporary blindness that is caused by sudden exposure to harsh lighting with the blindness being the effect of sudden & severe eye strain. Sunglasses for sale in the Philippines come in various colors and shade intensity that help lessen strain and most of all, prevent you from being flash blinded. This is especially true if your glasses have antiglare or polarization.

Macular Degeneration

In itself, macular degeneration may happen very commonly to people over 60 as a slow natural process of aging and degeneration. Macular degeneration is caused by the deterioration of the retina, the thin layer of nerves that senses light at the back of the eye near the optic nerve. Since it is one of the main light-processing parts of the eye, harsh brightness can hasten its degeneration; in turn, sunglasses can also help to slow the process down together with proper vitamins.

Cataracts

When you see people with the part of their eyes that is supposed to be black seem to have a cloudy or white film on top of it, that’s a cataract. A cataract is form when the thin layer of protective protein about the lens of our eyes start to clump. Suspected causes include aging, diabetes, unhealthy lifestyle, and of course wearing and tearing of the eyes through the years. It’s especially important to prevent or verily delay cataracts with sunglasses for sale in the Philippines, preferably packaged with UV protection as sunglasses can only filter through bright light but not exactly block harsh and damaging UV rays.

(Source: Instagram)

Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 6 sizzled the internet with its “highest-rated debut” on international TV. And with that, girls all over the Philippines are on the hype! Admit it, girls. We have this love-hate relationship with the two representatives of our country, Jachin Manere and Adela-Mae Marshall. We’re there, sitting in front of the TV and loving their beauty. And yet, we hate it because we don’t know how to achieve that “natural” model makeup look. Thankfully, the makeup secrets are out! Get that look by exploring these five makeup tips:

1. Skin

The best makeup artists in the Philippines begin with perfecting the skin of their models. You can crack their code for that lit-from-within skin by using an illuminating primer and a tinted moisturizer. Blend it with a beauty sponge or with your own fingers. Doing this will help the makeup product to warm on your skin, hence, giving you a broad and natural coverage.

2. Eyebrows

Models, celebrities, and the best makeup artists in the Philippines know that a good set of eyebrows is vital in getting that “natural” model makeup look. According to them, you don’t need to overdo and make them look like they’re drawn on! Just groom them up by filling sparse areas and providing arch lifts. Use light to medium-colored creamy brow pencils or gels and you’re good to go.

3. Eyeshadows

For dazzling eyes, eyeshadow is a must. Apply an eyelid primer first to skip the issue of oily and creasy lids. Doll up your eyes with shades like beige, light gold, and light brown. It’s a subtle way of making your eyes ready for that smize. But if you want to be a little extra, applying white eyeshadow with complementing warm colors would do the trick too.

4. Eyelashes

You can skip those eyeliners but never the mascara! The best makeup artists in the Philippines say that even a “natural” model makeup look calls for defined eyelashes. For that plump and lifted effect, use eye curlers and apply two coats of mascara to the top lashes. This boost will make your eyes look fiercer, a quality that models have.

5. Lips

To accent your natural lips, go for that pretty tint that lasts. Subtly amp up your lips with a shade that matches your lip color to complement your natural features. Finish it with a high-shine lip gloss for the flattering effect.

Getting that “natural” model makeup look is made easy through these tips. All in all, keeping everything light and fresh is the key, girl!

Tips on Sending Balikbayan Boxes from USA to the Philippines

(Rappler.com)

More than just a package full of imported goods, balikbayan boxes serve as the connection between family members working overseas and the ones remaining in the Philippines. It is only but important to ensure that these special packages reach our loved ones back in the country. And to ease the fear of missing some items or the box itself getting lost in transit, you need to keep in mind the following tips when sending a balikbayan box from the USA to the Philippines.

  • Familiarize yourself with the rules. Do you know that balikbayan boxes are duty & tax-free? Yes, this is made possible by RA 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, which exempts packages not exceeding Php150,000 from duties and taxes valid up to three times in one calendar year. But of course, only Qualified Filipinos While Abroad (QFWAs) are able to enjoy these privileges. Knowing such rules can save you not only bucks but also from the headache of worrying about these fees.

  • Label the balikbayan box properly. Make sure to legibly write the complete name of the sender and receiver, full address, and contact number in case couriers cannot find the location. A map sketch or hints on finding the destination also help. Printing this on white paper is also an option in case you don’t trust your own handwriting. Just secure it with transparent tape to secure it from being torn or damaged with wetness.

  • Itemize the contents of your package. Place a detailed list of the items inside your package and send a copy to your family in the country. This helps prevent missing items during transit of balikbayan box from the USA to the Philippines.

  • Refrain from sending contrabands. A single contraband caught in your package can cause issues and delays for the whole shipment so make sure you know what not to include in your balikbayan box. These include the following:

    • Used clothing of commercial quantity (ukay-ukay or in bales)
    • Products with dog or cat fur & other animal hides
    • Pornographic materials
    • Pirated products like CDs, DVDs
    • Pets, plants, seeds, soil
    • Perishable food items
    • Jewelry
    • Foodstuff that is not in cans, sealed packages or bottles such as fruits & vegetables
    • Explosives, firearms (including parts)
    • Drug paraphernalia (unless prescribed for medical conditions)
    • Defense articles or items with military or proliferation applications
    • Cultural artifacts & pottery
    • Ceramic tableware
    • Automobile/motorcycle, parts or whole
    • Alcohol/alcoholic drinks

  • Secure the items and the box. The last thing you would want is to disappoint your kid with broken toys so secure your package properly. Use bubble wrap or clothing to cushion fragile goods. Don’t forget to seal the opening and the sides of the box as well. For shampoo or lotion bottles, tape the cap to avoid spilling.

  • Send balikbayan boxes before the –ber months. Statistics tell that most Filipinos send balikbayan boxes to the Philippines during the Christmas season. The surge starts as early as September, so if you want to avoid the holiday rush, send your package weeks before the –ber months.

Trust only accredited forwarders. Lastly, and most importantly, ship your balikbayan box from the USA to the Philippines with only trusted forwarders. Ask fellow Pinoys about the shipping services they use or check with the Department of Trade and Industry website for a list of accredited freight forwarders in the country you’re in.
